I thought this was a 24 hour event that was happening on Thanksgiving weekend? That was the original plan. But, we listened to the feedback from lots of people who said that the timing was tough and that they were concerned about the length of the event. In order to make the spin relay more accessible to more people, we changed the format to a 12 hour event and rescheduled the date to Sunday, November 29th 2009.
Do I need a bike? Nope! The Steve Nash Sports Club cycling studio has top of the line stationary spin-bikes. Each team will be assigned to a bike that can be fully adjusted for each rider’s comfort.
Can I bring my own bike and trainer? Space is very limited, so we are unable to accommodate additional equipment in the Cycling Studio.
How long do I spin? Well, that depends on the number of people on your team and how your teammates decide to divide the spinning time… there are 12 hours to be spun and how your team assigns the spin rotation is up to your team!
Will anything be happening when it’s my turn to spin? Absolutely! The Steve Nash Sports Club cycling studio has state of the art audio and visual equipment that will keep you entertained… from action movies to Tour de France videos we’ve got your visual stimulation covered. How about some impromptu spin classes taught by certified Steve Nash Sports Club trainers throughout the 12 hours? Add to that a few hourly themes, random prizes, special guests and perhaps a spectacular head shave of one of our beautiful Cops for Cancer Junior Team members (Woohoo Vanessa!!!) and your spin will be over in no time! Actually, you won’t want it to end!
What about fuel? We’ve got that covered too! Our fully stocked nutrition station will keep you hydrated and energized before, during and after your spin.
I’m not really a cyclist… The beauty of a stationary bike is that, well, it’s stationary! And, the Spin Relay is not a race… you can spin as fast or a slow as you like.
Can we have kids on our team? Of course! As long as they have approval of a parent or legal guardian. Please see the Register section for more details.
Can we have more than one teammate spin at a time? Currently we only have a limited number of spin bikes and allocate one bike per team. Look at it as a great opportunity to meet new, like-minded people spinning in the vicinity of your bike!
Can we meet the child we’re sending to Camp Goodtimes? Get on Your Bike! teams are not sponsoring specific children, as attendance at Camp Goodtimes is by application basis in the year of attendance. However, some of the Cops for Cancer Junior Team members will be at the event for you to meet. These kids have all been regular attendees at Camp Goodtimes… and will likely continue to go for years to come! Odds are pretty good that Get on Your Bike! funds will go toward at sending least one of them to camp.
Is there somewhere to change before/after my spin? Absolutely! The Steve Nash Sports Club has beautiful locker room facilities complete with digital lockers, steam room, sauna, showers and a comfy tv lounge area with leather couches! Plan a little extra time to unwind after your spin session.
